Farewell Sunday

We would like to say Thank you to our friends at Northside who all came to say Goodbye and pray for us on Sunday.

Northside will always be in our heart.

Answering the Call

by Barbara Cross, Vision Editor

I remember sitting in the Fireside Room listening to Rick and Sarah Clemens as they shared with the church about their journey to becoming missionaries. Our Missions Team at Northside has a history of hosting these after-the-service lunches where missionaries share their stories. At that lunch, I sat with Kevin and Karen White. I could hear Karen whispering to Kevin as she pointed toward Rick and Sarah, “That will be us someday.”

The day has come. God has been preparing Kevin and Karen and their two boys, Benjamin and Andrew, to go as missionaries to South America – to Colombia to serve with Samaritan’s Purse, helping refugees from neighboring Venezuela.

In between that first overheard whisper and today, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Karen on staff at Northside. In April 2017, she stepped in to lead our Northside Kids ministry and has done an outstanding job revitalizing the ministry. Her love for people is second only to her love for the Lord. Love is the hub of who she is, but the spokes that stem from that hub are things like creativity and organization. She is an extremely gifted saint.

Kevin is gifted as well, having traveled on mission locally and abroad. He has been to the Pacific Rim, Africa, the Caribbean, Mexico and Central and South America. He is fluent in Spanish and solid in his understanding of scriptures and theology. Kevin was part of the team that traveled from Northside to Belize this year. He has also been on evangelistic, sports-themed trips to Dominican Republic and was a journeyman in Venezuela 2 years as part of his degree.

Kevin and Karen came to Northside after graduating from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Kevin holds a Master of Divinity degree in Missions and Evangelism and Karen has a Master’s degree in Christian Education. Karen has also traveled on short-term missions to Austria, Romania, and Dominican Republic. Both Kevin and Karen have been on stateside trips and have served on our Missions Team.

This is not the first time Northside has seen a staff member and children’s director called into full-time mission work. It likely won’t be the last. We count it a joy that the Lord uses this church as an incubator and launching spot for those who commit their lives to serve Him.

Please pray for the White family as they go through this transition and as they serve in Colombia. We look forward to good reports of all the Lord will do as they go.

He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.
